Outlast

Yes, the game that started all that screaming, running, and hiding fad. Almost every streamer out there owes their success to either this or Outlast, or Amnesia.

Outlast takes players on a journey through an abandoned asylum where numerous creepy experiments were being done on the inmates. Now, seemingly no one is in charge here, and several monstrous creatures roam around all over the place. You have to sneak, hide as you solve puzzles and advance through this incredibly creepy and scary video game. It might have started a fad, and it might be full of jump scares. Outlast is not for the faint-hearted.

Resident Evil Revelations

Yes, Resident Evil 4 is on Nintendo Switch; I know that, but I do not see that game as scary. It is one of the best action horror games out there, but it’s not scary to me; it’s more of an action-filled roller coaster ride.

Resident Evil Revelations, on the other hand, is a really creepy game. The most defining factor of this title is its main setting, an abandoned cruise ship that the protagonist, Jill Sandwich—I mean, Jill Valentine explores in search of Chris Redfield. It is a game full of unexpected twists and turns and arguably one of the better recent Resident Evil titles.

It has a bunch of other locations and characters too, but its main strength is the ship, and it packs some really scary moments.

Alien Isolation

Alien Isolation is a game that would really give you a hard time if you do not like being creative. This Alien game puts players on a spaceship crowded by hostile androids, some people who are not very friendly, and, of course, the Xenomorph. Only one, yet the scariest thing in the game.

Alien Isolation players usually have to pass room after room, hiding from enemies and the alien. They can use several tools to distract them and clear their own way. The interesting part is that the alien is always learning, and if you use one trick, you cannot hope to use it again. So be creative or be ready to die!

Observer

This is a game by none other than the Bloober Team, the same developer that recently worked on the Silent Hill 2 Remake. It is set in a dystopian future where you play a detective in search of your son. But when he reaches his son’s apartment building, a murder happens. Players now have to solve the murder in an abandoned apartment building, where horrific movements after horrific moments show themselves as players go around scanning the brain implants of dead people to find out what exactly is happening.

A very creepy game in a creepy environment, packed with a conclusion that would leave its players in shock!

Dying Light

Some might see this game as a simple zombie game, but there’s plenty in it to prove that’s not the case. A fun-filled action horror game by day that turns a million times scarier at night when the Volatiles come out.

They are much faster and stronger than your usual zombies; if you do not believe it, go ahead and try destroying one of their nests.

It’s a short list, yes, but it covers pretty much every type of horror game you can find on the Nintendo eShop. So why would you wait when you could start an everlasting cycle of being scared, taking a break, and starting all over again?
