When Nintendo announced the Super Mario Bros. movie, fans were curious and excited in equal parts. Eventually, as the announcements kept piling up, the feelings started becoming more and more positive. And once the movie actually launched, fans were already asking for a movie based on the Luigi’s Mansion and The Legend of Zelda franchises!
The Super Mario Bros. movie was really a ground-breaking success; it was the kind of success that inspires people to continue doing what they are doing. It has indeed inspired Universal Studios and Nintendo to develop yet another movie based on another one of Nintendo’s IPs.
Work has finally started on a live-action adaptation of the Legend of Zelda series!
There are only two Nintendo franchises that actually deserve big-budget blockbuster Hollywood treatment: either Metroid Prime or The Legend of Zelda. Metroid Prime is excellent, but it is still not a series that many know outside of Nintendo’s fan circle, but everyone knows of The Legend of Zelda.
Once Super Mario Bros. Movie became a ground-breaking success, fans instantly wanted Universal and Illumination to start working on a movie based on The Legend of Zelda. But it looks like Universal has decided to do one better; they are actually in the process of developing a live-action adaptation of this series.
The details of this movie are still a bit scarce; there’s no information on the director, writer, or anything, let alone the actors. But now that the details have started dropping in, we hope to hear more very soon.
Who do you think would play Link?
One thing that I personally do not want to see happen, though, is for Universal to hire Tom Holland in the role of Link for this Nintendo movie adaptation. Link is a straightforward character; he does not speak, and he mostly does what he is asked to do. It would be a shame if a person whose only claim to fame is playing a world-renowned superhero.

This role needs a new face—someone who is not attached to a big franchise as of yet. Let’s see where Nintendo and Universal take this, though. We ourselves can only hope for something to happen. After all, we as a community failed badly when we tried to shoo away Chris Pratt from playing Mario.
The speculation on casting of characters in this movie has only started as of yet. These would grow as we get more information on this move. Here’s hoping some more information drops soon enough!
